Default Checking for Gears

i remember reading one post where to check to see if your car has gears. I just bought an ap1 and it feels/drives so much faster then my buddies. I bought and went right to his house. I mean just WOT seems alot quicker. The dealership said it was a trade-in and that it was stock.

I remember reading where if in 3rd gear it should be @ 30mph then you do or dont have gears?

Uh...what do you mean 3rd gear @ 30mph? That speed is way to slow for that gear. 2nd gear redlines at 62mph.

haha 1000rpm, thats just above idle. stock gears you will be at 74.5mph at 4000 rpms in 6th gear. thats a good way to check.

Here's how you find out.

Put your car on stands and get under it. Next, pull out the transmission and put it on the bench. Then open the side cover and see if there are actual gears in there or if you have a bunch of hampsters on a wheel. If you see hampsters, you know your can doesn't have gears. For re-installation of the transmission, reverse the removal procedure.

You should also do the same to check if your diff has gears too. And lastly, have fun and drink a lot of beers while you're doing this.

MY00-MY03 w/Stock gears (4.10)
1st gear: 42 mph
2nd gear: 65 mph
3rd gear: 90 mph
4th gear: 115 mph
5th gear: 138 mph
6th gear: 165 mph
