You say new axles or mean axle/hub nut?
I hate this problem cuz it makes the car sound cheap and broken down.
Love to fix it once and for all.

 

I don't think it's the hub nut.

I got a reply from another forum that the noise could be from the drive shaft (i.e. loose joint, etc.) which made sense in that the noise is only there when initially changing direction. I'll be checking on my drive shaft next.

 

You did the 220lb.ft. thing, and it didn't help? I'd certainly try that before up and deciding it's the driveshaft.

The hub nut problem IS only there when you start to move (in a new direction or not).

 

Yes, I have checked my hub nuts - greased and re-installed at 220lbs-ft.. I did it even though I've read that it is a problem only with older model years (I have a MY05 AP2).

The noise I am hearing is just as the OP described. It's only when initially changing direction. If all I am doing is stopping and moving forward without changing direction, there is no noise. If I am moving forward, go to a stop, shift in reverse and start moving backwards, I will hear this noise. If I then stop and start moving further backwards, there is no noise. I can do this as many times as I can but there will be no noise. If I then stop, shift into 1st and start moving forward, the noise will be there again. If I stopped and start moving further forward, there is no noise. And so on...

 

Well i agree with Damuho but my clicking sound has been around for about 4 months now. Im guessing over time it ggets worse because If i stop hard then go. I hear the clicking which makes sense because stoping hard puts the same inertia on the car as reverse would.
I too have bought brand new hub nuts and tightened them to 220lbs-ft as everyone states. The first time. The noise went away for roughly 2 months. then it came back. Changed them again and the noise returned in nearly 2 weeks. Im not doing it again because i firmly believe it is not the Hub Nuts.
