Yeh - Axle (Spindle) nut is one click. I tried that already, only cost about $10 - but didn't work

Ive been having a similar problem. For me i get a click or two after i start up the car after its been sitting for a while. Ill start it up, and usually after i roll about 20 feet or so down the road i hear a pop/click coming from the rear.

does that sounds like an axle nut issue?

it only clicks once or twice, and mostly when im in reverse backing out of a spot.

I just called my local Honda dealer - $4.04/ea. The problem is I don't have a torque wrench that goes to 250LB.

you should be able to get one from harbor freight for 10-20 bucks. they guarantee the thing to be within 6%. i'm the opposite, paid $300 for my fancy wrench but it doesn't do the bottom of the scale, thus my research into a cheapie.

if you don't have the patience or funds to order you can do what i always did on my civic: find a 5-foot breaker bar and stand on the sob until you're satisfied.

I recently had this problem, it wasn't the axle nut problem in make case.
I opened the rear inner cv boots got as much of the stock grease out and replaced it. That has fixed the problem

Axle nut usually only makes a single click when starting (load). Usually not a repetitive clicking.
I thought this was well known. People need to stop blaming all clicking on the axle nut.

That's an inner CV (constant velocity) Hub. It bolts up to the differential and the axle has a 3-roller spider that rides in the CV Hub. This one was on the left (driver's) side. You can swap the left and right hubs if one or both are making noise or causing vibration - instructions are in the DIY section.

Thanks for the help - If I had to ask a mechanic to do it, what would I say?
