Default clicking noise comming from engine?

As soon as i start my s2k, I can hear an immediate rattling noise comming from the engine, when i pop the hood and hear it, the sound is comming from the top portion of the engine where the intake manifold is ( i think) or the drivers side. anyone know what this could be?

My car is doing the same thing. I think its the valves. It usually happens by over-revving or missing a gear.

Lifter-tick possibly? What oil/filter are you using?

The S2000's solid lifters are much louder than hydraulic lifters that are found on more common automobiles. That's probably all it is.

I also have a ticking sound and it's most noticable ~3000 rpm. After that the engine noise drowns it out. I hope it's normal.

most of you are probably hearing rattle from the heat shield. And as stated, our engine will make a ticking noise that is quite noticable even from the driver's seat at idle.

If you had damage from a mechanical over-rev, your engine would be doing a LOT more than ticking. lol

I get a clanging noise from the time I start it up until it's been running a little while, I mean warmed up into the 3 bars. Even then it will sound clangy while revving up through the gears until about a mile or so then the clanging goes away. I just assumed that's a charastic of an all aluminium engine. Anyone else have this happening?
