Default Clicking question

Ok, First it doesn't make any sounds from a stop or while driving straight. It doesn't make any noise when starting from a stop while going straight or turning from a stop.

It DOES make a sound when your going 20mph plus on a right hand turn. Sounds very much like a wrist watch on steriods. You know what it sounds like, if you have a stove or grill where you hold down a button to light the grill! You hear the tick tick of the spark etc. That's almost exactly what it sounds like.

Did the axle nut about a month ago (220 pounds, grease etc etc). But this doesn't sound like what I'd expect the axle nut to sound like, nor does it seem to behave the same way. It also doesn't seem to match a cv issue either, based on all the stuff I've read for the last hour and half.

I do have the comptech reinfoced diff and 4.57 gears. It tends to whine between 51-59mph and 74-78mph..

What do you guys think, hub bearing, cv, something else?

I would say CV.

My old car's posi made a tick sound when I used the incorrect diff fluid (non posi diff fluid in a posi diff). You have the right fluid? Sometimes it is the small stuff...

Have you looked under the car and in the wheel wells for a foreign object stuck and dragging.

Don't see why it wouldn't be. I don't drag race, LE607, 4.57's in a prebuilt comptech reinforced from Rich's.

I'm starting to think I didn't stake down the axle nut good enough and its come loose again. Besides, I don't think the diff would care if you were in a corner or not.

With the top up you can't hear it at all. Makes me wonder if I got a nail in my tire (again) and I just haven't found it. The more I hear it, the more it sounds like a foreign object stuck in the tread somewhere.

If it was the axle nut you would more than likely hear the clicking when taking of from a dead stop, not just when you take a right turn.

Sounds like an axle issue maybe.

Thanks,

I was reading through that, and I'd almost bet my right n... never mind. But I'd bet this is my problem

"add a little of the CV grease to the splines and you'll also cure/prevent the annoying-but-harmless rear-axle "click" noise."

I know how a bad bearing is supposed to act, and I know how a bad diff is supposed act, and I know how a bad CV is supposed to act. I don't get any clunks, thumps, grinds, metal shavings, pops, vibrations, shakes or shimies (sp?). Just the click, not very loud, not metalic. It sounds like a pebble stuck in the tread or a nail... except I can't find one.

So in a comical twist if idiocy... I figured it out.

Turns out that in a fit genius, when I restaked the axle nut I only crimped down on one side of the |_| notch... I did the wrong side at that on my drivers side. If I was aiming to keep it from getting any tighter it would have perfect... So I re-torqued, and FULLY crimped/staked its butt down this time!
