Default clicking from right rear wheel

So, what I have is a single click sound from the passenger rear wheel that I can reproduce fairly easily by shifting into reverse (from a standstill), reversing, then hitting the brakes firmly, meaning it does not happen as I first get moving, but as I apply the brakes the stop. For example, when I am rolling/backing out of my driveway and then as I hit the brakes in the street, that is when it occurs. It also happens in the reverse scenario (slow forward movement, apply brakes, 'click') but its much more quiet, nearly imperceptible. I have re-torqued the axle nuts, so I don't think its that.

What I also have is a very very slight amount of play in both half shafts when I grab it near the outer CV joint and move it 'in and out' from the differential. I do not know if this is normal but both sides have this condition, and its not a front/back movement but in/out. Its so slight that I can't see it, only feel and hear it. It seems to be less that a millimeter of movement. I don't know that this would be related to my mysterious noise however.

I considered that it might be brake pad lock up, but I don't know what that sounds like, and it happens warm or cold, regardless of how long its been sitting. I also tested my differential, so to speak, by putting it in first with the rear wheels off the ground and making sure they turn opposite directions when I spin one by hand. Maybe its from a worn out wheel bearing? Maybe the upper A-arm bracket is pulling from the frame? I haven't check that out yet, just presenting it as a possibility.

The car drives just fine, I just don't like the idea that I might be heading for a catastrophic failure.

I know its very difficult to diagnose noises by reading about them, but I figured since you guys are the best there might be some knowledge to be shared.

Thanks for taking time to read this and for any advice you might have.

I had the same problem, but only when the car is cold, and only the first time i brake, when i went out the garage...

I'm sure it's not a problem...
But it's about brake pads...

Sometimes the have mittle play in the caliper or on the disc, and the first time they click...

But with hot cat, it's all fine!

So guys dont' worry, change disc and pads if you wont and you will solve it!

But I'm not sure its not a problem! I'm gonna put in a new set of rear pads, its a good time for them, but I don't know what that'll do to alleviate the clicking I'm experiencing. If it happens consistently, warm or cold, then could the brakes really be the root of the problem?

Could you elaborate a little, if you don't mind it? I know I mentioned it in my OP, but for my own reference and knowledge I'd like to know why you suspect it is a worn bearing and/or hub. Or, more precisely, assuming one or both of these components has failed, my click sound might be made by what clicking against what? Specific question I know.

thanks again guys
