Clunk! (rear end sounds)
I bought a s2000 rebuild project. The left 1/2 shaft was missing when i got it and had probably been off for a year or two. I reinstalled every thing according the the Honda service manual.
So i went for my first ride in freezing cold Ohio today. (despite the problems it was awesome
) When i put it in gear and give it a very little go it clunks in the back and jumps a little. It still moves but you can feel somthing wrong. Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like a driveline problem. Make sure that all nuts and bolts connecting the driveshaft to the transmission and differential are tight. Then double check the bolts attaching the half-shafts to the differential. If all of that is OK, make sure that the splined shafts are seated properly in the hub with the large nut torqued correctly. One last possibility is that the replacement and/or original half shafts are worn. This usually causes clunking in a turn, but if severe, could cause the problem you mention.
If all of these driveline items are tight, then it might be an internal problem in the differential or transmission. You did check and top up all of the fluids, right?

By fluids, I meant the transmission and differential fluids. Make sure you put the correct stuff in - Honda MTF (1.8 quarts) in the transmission and 75W/90 GL4 or GL5 rated oil (0.8 quart) in the differential. Many of us use special Lubrication Engineers 90W lube available through the Marketplace in the differential.
Many owners have reported a clunk upon starting out that was associated with poorly lubricated half shaft splines (that insert into the hub) and/or a loose rear axle nut, so you might want to start there.

I buy mine at the local Honda dealer.
As an alternative, many owners have reported good results with GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. Here's a link to a discussion about transmission lubes.
