Default clunk when starting. does yours?

Basically, when i turn on my vehicle, i hear a clunk/thump in the rear. i been having somebody turn on my vehicle for me and i noticing it happens randomly in the rear. the car is an 07 with no modifications.

Open your door and listen to the rear when you turn on the car. I want to know if this normal? Remember, it's random so it may not happen during the first try.

i thought it was my exhaust, but nothing looks bent. ideas? besides taking it to the dealership which i am doing on Saturday.

my 07 is doing that...284 miles on it.

I have not bothered to look into it, I just assumed it was normal. Its not a bad thunk...just sounds like the motor is shaking something a little further than it should. If the car was not new, I would check into worn motor mounts but worn mounts would also have thunks when driving and this does not.

Any chance this happens after driving in the rain? Sometimes the e-brake can lightly rust to the rotors, producing a "clunk" sound when the car starts to move.

negative... my vehicle is not moving. just put the key in and ignite~! "dunk" from the rear. nothing is back there except the muffler/pipes/differential. definitely not sticky pads/caliper "tink"

Hmm. Odd. Maybe it's an '07 thing.

I have not tried to identify where its coming from...under the car somewhere near the middle, sounds like under the passenger seat but I will check into it next morning when I start it up.

I had not worried about it, the car is new so whatever noise is there I assume is normal and not something to worry about.

Yes, I would worry about motor knocking or like that, I know the difference between "worry about that noise" and "ignore that noise" this is one of the ignore ones for me, I will post back tomorrow after I fire it up in the morning.

Does the clunk happen when you let the clutch out after starting the car? If the car is up in the air on a lift, and you start it and leave the gear box in neutral with the clutch out, the rear wheels will still spin slightly. I'm thinking that maybe if when you first start the car and let the clutch out the driveline components are tensing up, producing this clunk sound.

Here's something to try. With the car idling in a parking lot, put the clutch in and quickly move the shifter into 1st gear. Do you get the same clunk sound?

I get a slight clunk from the engine kicking in when I push start. I don't think that's what you're talkinga bout.

Hopefully mine will be alieved a little after I install the ETD.
