No matter what clutch you have, freeplay should be at zero. With a non-hyd clutch, there would be many settings for different apps.

I think that there should be some amount of free play. It can be close to zero, but not zero. If the play is truely zero, then even touching the clutch pedal at all between shifts will engage the master cylinder and throw out bearing.

I agree, a small amount of free play is desirable. The manual even says that a no-clearance adjust will lead to problems.

My clutch did not engage properly IMO when new and was even worse after a clutch replacement without a pedal adjustment. I was able to get it right by making the stroke longer and adjusting so there is a little play in the pedal.

That's why I added, "you should barely see the rod move in the master". So almost zero would be correct.
