I am attempting this right now and am having a really hard time getting the 12mm nut to budge. Since I am trying to back the nut off, I should be turning clockwise, no? Did anyone else have trouble getting the nut to move?

Rust is not the issue, lube will only make your situiation worse by lubing the outside of the nut. So dry it off with paper towels.

sitting in the drives seat, the nut will need to turn clockwise to crack it loose.

then turn the rod clockwise with finger pressure only till it takes out the play.

Thanks Billman.

Tip for those trying to get the nut loose:

get a locking vice grip to crack it open clockwise!
