Default Clutch grabs high... normal?

So i just bought this car and the previous owner said it needs a new clutch because it grabs high. ( definition of high is engages fully within about the first inch of pedal travel ). so i bought the car knowing this, figuring no problem id do a clutch. but i drove the car home and there is absolutely no clutch slippage all the way to 9k.

plus i always thought signs of a worn clutch is when it grabs low. can someone verify this for me or give me some insight?

actually I think it sounds perfectly fine. Just to be clear (because I don't use the terms high or low), but it sounds like the clutch engages within the first couple of inches as you release the pedal from the floor. A worn out clutch in my opinion is one that engages right near the end of pedal travel. So I think you are fine.

If you don't like the clutch engagement point you can adjust it by extending the rod longer or shorter. I just picked up an 02 s2k and didn't like where the clutch engaged so I've been adjusting the rod to get the pedal to my liking. It is pretty simple to do using small adjustments a bit at a time until you it right.

BTW our clutch only has 4 inches of stroke, so it engages and disengages over a very short distance.

clutch engagement doesn't directly relate to clutch wear. i recently installed my clutch and it grabs up on top. come to think of it, my engagement changes accordingly to my driving. when driving hard it grabs down low, when cruising it grabs on top.

anyway, just drive it as it is, and if it starts slipping that's your indication for a new clutch.

thanks for the info guys!! it appears i do not need a new clutch.... i actually like the engagement where it is now but wanted to make sure it wasnt a sign of a worn clutch.

thanks again
