Default Clutch Interlock Switch

How do you go about disabling the clutch interlock switch so you don't have to push the clutch petal to start the engine?

Will it effect anything else?

I've been meaning to do that for awhile now too. The switch is attached to the clutch pedal. To bypass it, all you need to do is disconnect the connector and jumper the two pins (it looks like anyway). There's more than one switch. It's the one that gets pushed when the pedal's all the way down.

Since it engages and disengages normally as the car's gears are shifted. I'm thinking there's nothing wrong with leaving it shorted.

It's a safety feature that reduces the possibility that you will push the car into another object when trying to start it. It also reduces the possibility that you can initiate an engine start when the car is in gear, thereby POWERING the vehicle into something or someone. Would I be correct to think that you are putting in an auto start device? Use extreme caution.

I have also checked this out and looked at a few wiring diagrams and found that the switch is also in line with the cruise control circuit. So the CC may not work if you disconnect it.

I'm looking at page 4-4 in the shop manual PDF. I see nothing in there about the cruise control. The brake circuit, which is the other switch, yes that will mess up the CC.

I was never a fan of most of these nanny devices. Like the "don't put the gear in neutral while moving" school of thought, these safety devices prevent you from being in complete control of the car. If I want to bump the car forward with the starter, I should be able to (not that I would).

These are two different switches on two different circuits. One routes through the cruise control unit and the other routes through starter cut relay.

Safety is a good thing.
No doubt.
The European models do not have that "press clutch to start" feature.

I smell law suit prevention.

It is also not a good idea to warm up your dog in the engine bay when he/she got cold.
Use a microwave for that

Try going to page 4-36 and 4-47. One will not affect the other.

The cruise control has an interlock switch on both the clutch and the brake pedal. The starter interlock switch is only on the clutch pedal and it's a different switch.
