Default Clutch issue and 3rd gear grind

AP1 S2000 issue... Looking for input, think this may be a clutch issue rather than a synchro issue as it feels like I've released the clutch early shifting into 3rd even though the pedal is completely depressed. However to be more precise, 3rd gear occasionally feels as though there is a small bump or tooth when shifting at certain rpms (predominantly above 6k) It has also happened with 2nd gear once or twice when shift timing was off... At 25-45 mph 5500 rpm or less it shifts like butter 99 percent of the time.

Clutch seems to disengage fully (doesn't creep forward in gear with clutch in) however I am considering that it may not be fully disengaging thus causing this issue.

Considering the following:
new master as although there is not an active leak, but an intermittent weaping around the piston is sometimes noted.
new slave as it is audibly creaking/squeaking when the engine is off... Cant hear it inside the car when idling.
grease clutch fork (tips?)
Grease Shifter "linkage"

Steps already taken:

Honda MTF (drain and fill)

followed by

AMSOIL Syncromesh (drain and fill)

Bled the clutch (minimal air noted)

Changed clutch fluid

Input is appreciated, thanks!

3rd gear bump can be reproduced in all s2000s. If you rev to at least 5500, and get it in 3rd a bit faster, the bump will go away guaranteed.

Thanks for the reply.

I put new master and slave cylinders in and this seems to have resolved the issue 95% of the time, however, it still feels as though there is a small bump or even "tiny" grind shifting into 3rd (Up or down) at 6k+.

Going to try greasing the shifter and perhaps replacing the ball and spring, or even just installing a short shifter. Double clutching seems to resolve the issue on upshifts regardless of rpm, and revmatching downshifts seems to work better than double clutching for downshifts.

Is basic Moly grease acceptable for the shifter assembly?

Any thoughts?

Neither double clutching nor shifter greasing is the answer. Anyone who double clutches in this car is operating the transmission improperly, trying to mask a problem.

3rd gear bump is almost always driver induced.

Clutch fluid and clutch adjustment will have the most effect.

Billman, I double clutch when its real cold out, and trans fluid hasn't warmed up yet. Is this OK?

I do this to prevent rough shifting that otherwise occurs. I don't want to be revving the engine when its cold, so I'm not shifting at 4k+ rpm's. Plus the fluid is cold = crunching shifts until things warm up.

Is there something else I should be doing instead? Sorry to hijack this thread, but I think others will want to know.

Each car seems to respond to differently to the various MTF's.

I tried Amsoil in mine, and it was awful (Honda MTF before that, and it was ok). It was almost impossible to shift into 3rd without a little grind.

Gm Synchromesh came next, and it was way better (still in there).

My car actually shifts better cold. When the MTF gets to temp, 3rd has more of a tendency to grind. Because of this, I'm going to try RedLine MT90 next (will change it next week).

Is it each car responds differently, or maybe its each driver?

Valid point.

Probably just as much how it's been driven in the past (particularly the condition of the synchros).
