Thumbs up Gear grind while clutch is depressed

So a couple months back I was starting off from a complete stop and went smoothly through first.
I went into second gear and added throttle but the engine just revved like it was in neutral.
I depressed the clutch pedal and moved the gear lever down about an inch more and at that moment there was very noticeable gear grinding.

The car has been driving fine since then until today when I accidentally did the same thing in third.

It can best be described as going into the right gear gate but not far enough in to be fully engaged. Also keep in mind the clutch pedal is fully depressed/no throttle is being applied when the grinding occurs.

What can I make of this scenario? Should I be double clutching before moving the gear shift into place after the "mis-shift" ?

the search came up with grinding issues that seemed to be clutch involved/applicable to AP1 only.

Thanks in advance

That grinding is normal - you werent in gear, you tried to force it in while the car was still moving/engine wasnt matched, synchros couldnt catch up fast enough so grind.

not sure I understand.

Why would a non rev matched downshift not do the same thing (grind) then?

my clutch was not engaged

I have the same issue except in first and second gear. Like sometime when I put the lever in first, it like it sitting in neutral instead. When I give it gas and it rev up and notice that it rev much quicker with out moving, then clutch in and force it into first gear, grind. I have about 38k miles on my clutch

Clutch out, allow revs to drop, clutch back in and THEN shift. should be good to go...I think? unless something is wrong..

I agree. The internals of the transmission was probably spinning way to fast for the synchronizers to mesh properly. Next time it happens, wait....and allow things to slow down before engaging the gear.

So to clear everything up it was the synchro grind not the actual gear?

Pretty much, synchros tend to go out first but the metal pieces from the synchro can damage the gears.
