Hi,
It's been about 40 years since I replaced a clutch, so my son, who's done them on Acura RSX's, toyota's and Mazda's, is helping me. (Or maybe I'm helping him). We've removed everything as directed in the manufacturer's manual, including 8 transmission bolts, but we still can't separate the transmission from the engine. Any hints/help would be appreciated.

any other ideas?

Have you dropped the subframe enough to allow the trans to not hit the firewall?

Did you unbolt the shifter from up top completely?

There are pry points between the engine and the transmission housing

I generally use an engine support stand and disconnect the engine mounts so I can allow the engine/transmission to get a bit lower

Does it separate from the engine at all? How far?

Be sure you have removed the upper starter bolt, and not the lower.

9 bolts in total.

Remove all the bolts holding the transmission and engine together, remove the fork and pull hard.
Tranny might stick a bit. There are small openings in the tranny casing/oil pan. Use a big screwdriver to seperate the two a little bit. The first bit is the hardest... for the rest, use a rubber hammer

My folks went out of town for Easter and the week before it, so I only worked on it till Wednesday of last week, and then canned it until this week.
BUT ANYWAYS..., back to it, I figured out shortly after we talked that there is a deeply hidden bolt above the starter, (beyond what I had thought you meant by suggesting the starter bolt,) honestly, the coolant hose gets in the way of seeing it on the AP2 model year cars, which can be extremely hard to move out of the way enough to find the bolt. After I removed the bolt it all came apart fairly simply. Thanks for all the help!!!
Now, for the fun part, installing new parts onto the vehicle!!
