Default Clutch Plate Replacement?

Hey, I'm hoping that somebody can help me identify a problem I just started having with my S2K. I noticed recently that when the car is in gear and I give it a lot of gas, the RPMs race up pretty quick but the car does not begin to accelerate. Once I let off the gas and the RPMs start to drop a bit, the clutch seems to "catch" and the car feels a little like I'm letting the clutch out quickly (car sort of lurches a bit). I've only noticed this when I'm already moving and downshifting while in higher gears, but my guess is that it would happen in first too. Note that this is occurring without me touching the clutch pedal - the car is completely in gear and the clutch pedal is all the way out, but the way it feels is sort of as if I had the clutch pedal pushed in just a little too far so that the clutch is barely on the edge of engaging. My uneducated guess is that it is the clutch plate, and that it only has enough friction left to get the car moving at lower RPMs. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Also, had any had a clutch plate replacement done that can provide what they paid for the work? I know the part runs about $100, but I have no idea how much labor is involved.

Thanks ahead of time.

Sounds like your clutch is toast. Labor is tough to pinpoint but $350-$800 is the range. A mechanic by me charges $450. What year is your car n mileage?

U have 3 options

1. Buy the clutch kit n install it urself which runs between $150-$350 depending on which brand but oem is best.

2. Buy the clutch kit n have a shop do the install which runs between $400-$600 depending on which shop u choose so call around for the best price.

3. Take it to a shop n have them get the parts and do the install which will run between $800-$1500 depending on the shop.

So best to call around n find the best price. U won't get an exact price from us because each shop charges different rate for different cars. Good luck.

The transmission has to be removed to replace the clutch disk. You also have to resurface the flywheel. Most people just replace the clutch, pressure plate, both pilot and clutch release bearings, as well as the crankshaft rear main seal along with a new, or resurfaced flywheel. Unfortunately this is the proper way to do it, as if you just replace one component you have the possibility of another wearing out and requiring another transmission removal. It's not too bad once you've done a couple, but it's not the sort of thing you look forward to doing, so, better to do it once, and have it last 10 years, than do it so so, and have to re-do it 5 times in that span. Just my humble opinion. All this means is that the total job adds another 0 to the figure you posted
