Default clutch? problem

theres a thread about this somewhere else but its dead so ill start a new one..

if i shift at WOT/redline, about 50% of the time, the rpm's will "hang" at about 6.5k or so for 1/2 second and then it starts to accelerate. i know its not my clutch slipping because i know first hang what that feels like aswell (not on my car). what do you guys think the problem is? driver error?

Sounds like clutch slip to me. (In fact, it sounds exactly like the clutch egnagement delay valve that '04+ cars have, but I notice you have an '02 instead.)

yeah when i saw a thread about the 04+ delay valve i thought it might be it but yeah i have a 02... i did buy the car with 17k miles about 4 so who knows....

and i thought clutch slipping was the opposite? where the rpm's clim but the car doesnt go anywhere?

I have exactly this problem on my 04 (with delay valve removed).

Still working on a diagnosis with Honda. We think it is due to worn clutch.

Depends on what you're doing. The rising rpm without corresponding rise in road speed happens when you are taking off. Generally, this is when someone tries to launch badly.
What's happening to you is a case where, on a high rpm shift into the next higher gear, you release the clutch rapidly while at the same time getting back on the gas, the rpm "hangs" at a level just above the corresponding road speed. It won't go down because it's slipping but it won't go up either (for that second or so) till the road speed catches up slightly. Then, when the flywheel speed is closer to the speed of the downstream drivetrain, the clutch can fully lock up and away you go. It's still clutch slippage, but the point of reference has changed.

I haven't tried it on my personal car, but I've driven cars with this setup and liked it, and heard very good things about it - stock friction disk, Mugen pressure plate and Comptech or Toda flywheel.
