Default Clutch Problem

hey guys,I'm a newer s2k owner, bought used and learning stick with the s2000. on my drive home today I wasn't able to get into some gears, I had to almost force it in. My clutch feels different, it feels loose, loose to about half way down, and then harder all the way down. I'm not riding the clutch too much i don't think(no burning smell?), I try to stay away from driving in stop and go traffic for now and I've never dropped the clutch. I checked out my Clutch fluid for the first time and it was low(below the top by about 1inch-ish) and black. I havent bled it yet, so that might help me out. If I have to get a new clutch, how much am I looking at having to spend? also im not sure if this matters but when the car is off, without using the clutch i can get in and out of gears easily. thanks.

clutch can be around $1000-1200 (parts + labor). if you want a new flywheel, it'll be even more.

change out your fluid first. bleed it. see what happens.

there are a couple of threads for adjusting the play in the clutch, and also dealing with "sticky" clutch feel. i can't remember them off the top of my head, but a search should give you some useful threads.

you might just have a leaking clutch master cylinder. might want to get it replaced before you go with new clutch.

I got this tip a while ago. I was having a problem, gears were difficult to engage, especially reverse. The shop said I needed a new master cylinder, but someone here said just bleed the clutch fluid.

I haven't even done that yet but I spent $2 on a siphon and $3.50 on clutch fluid. I used the siphon to suck out dirty fluid, topped up with new and the clutch works better than ever!
