Default clutch problem?

i just purchased a 00 s2000 with 105k miles on it. when I drove the car it had a pretty stiff clutch. The guy i bought it from told me it wasn't aftermarket, and it didnt really feel too heavy. When i would begin to release the clutch peddle in first gear to accelerate, the car jumped and died on me and i had barely released when i felt the clutch begin to engage. i was like, wth? iv been driving stick forever and i have driven many cars with aftermarket clutches and drove them fine, but this s2k was something else. it also does this when im moving through the gears, like it engages way to quickly, causing the car to kinda jump every time i shift and release the clutch. Its kinda hard to explain, but the clutch doesn't slip at all, and it gets up to 9k RPM's like a champ. Also, sometimes in first gear when i release the clutch, right when it feels like its starting to grip it makes a grinding noise. And its not coming from my tranny, I can feel it in my clutch peddle. Someone HELP! thanks

I woulda asked for a better price before I bought it. U can try bleeding clutch reservoir and readjusting clutch rod. Otherwise I'd say sol as it's gonna be money to fix it

I've got this same problem. I've heard it has something to do with the pressure plate being damaged. I'm just gonna fork out the cash and buy something nice

Either the pedal position is too low (easy to adjust with a couple of wrenches) or your clutch plate is screwed (expensive to fix).

I'd check the pedal position first

Edit: it could be the hydrolics too, I guess. Check your clutch fluid levels, and look under the car to see if any fluid leaking from around the slave cylinder.

1) check clutch fluid level
2) check master cylinder for leaks (if leaking then get a new one)
3) adjust master cylinder rod for the right engagement point
4) bleed the system

if that doesn't help then get a new clutch.

Yeah. A couple people told me that my pressure plate should be changed. I'll try bleeding it and see if that helps, but i dont think it will fix the grinding. I bought the car for a low price, and it runs great except for the clutch. The car looks beautiful as do all s2k's. I think im just going to buy a new clutch and everything and see if that helps. Thanks for the input guys.

well depending on what kind of grinding, it might help. a malfunctioning slave or master cylinder could cause incomplete disengagement/engagement of the clutch.
