Clutch problem someone help!
Ok so this isn't an s2000 clutch question or nething, but i guess if y'alls know about clutches they're practically the same for most cars. I have a 1998 honda prelude type SH (and the reason i'm askin on this board if ur wondering, is because the people on hondaprelude.com often come up with useless responses, cuz most of the board is filled with teenagers who often dont know nething about cars.. kinda like me haha wait this is off topic, ok back to my question!) ok so i think my clutch is worn, i dunno. but like this is my problem. Ok before when i would chirp 2nd, it'd work really well (maybe u guys use a differnt term for it but chirp is when u have like a mini-burn-out in between a shift) ok so like after a while, when i tried it, instead of having that sudden jerk of motion, and instead of the clutch grab it really quickly... the shift is instead, really smooth.. even when i POP the clutch! and i asked some friends and they said that my clutch is just gettin old but i should be able to get a good 20k miles on it. Well i figured it was reasonable at first as long as i dont continutally burn the clutch or nething.. but then it started to be really nasty feeling.. like every time in between shifts, normal driving, it'd be too smooth, even when i purspoely pop the clutch, it would be smooth. So ok i figure i should just drive normally. Well then.. today as i'm driving home, i guess i'll describe it thsi way. I'm in 3rd gear, goin at about lets say 30 mph, and i wanna speed up without downshifting. so i floor it for the hell of it, and instaed of just accellerating normally, the rpm, would slowly rise up to like 6k, and then my car woudl be accelerating, and then the rpm would slowly drop down, and catch on to the engine or somethin i dunno! its weird as helll! it feels as though i'm using the clutch lightly, but i'm not even touching it! at first i thought it was just my imagination or somethin, so i went and tried again, this time in 2nd gear. my max speed in 2nd gear is somewhere around 60 mph b4 i hit redline, well so i just drive normally, i leave it in 2nd gear, i'm driving at around 20 mph.. then i floor it.. the rpm rises up smoothly to just b4 redline, and i'm still only goin like 35, stil accerating, then the rpm smoothly drops down to like 5k, then it rises up again like it normally should. So yea, it feels as if i were using the clutch but i wans't touchin it! so ok, i have 37500 miles on my car. and supposedly a stock clutch can last up to like 70k b4 a replacement on average.. well i figure, ok, so when i was first learning to drive stick i may have burned it.. and all those times i tried chirping it may have worn it out and stuff... however... this wont be the 1st time i'm replacing it! i've replaced it once b4, and that was with ony like 15000 miles on the car, (it wasn't my car at the time, it was my dads, i got the prelude when he bought an s2000), but like at 15000 miles, this one time my dad was driving up a hill, and then he was like flooring it and the clutch was almost all the way out, and the car was still rolling back. we had to use the ebrake to keep us from falling back, then release it afterwards. it was weird. so yea we replaced it.. and my dad claimed that after he got the new clutch, it felt even better than when he bought the car new, meaning there was arelady a problem with it. and now i have it, i've already explained my problem already.. so yea.. i dont know wutz wrong.. is it the clutch or wut??? and how much would it be to fix at the dealer... could i replace it myself? with lil knowledge about it. someone help!!!!! haha long post.. thanks to all who took the time to read/replied!
Seems to me that you are going little too harsh on the stock clutch.
Stock clutch usually has compromise set-up which allows some slippage to allow you to drive smoothly. If you are continously drive in too aggresive manner, the stock clutch will give out very quickly.
You need to invest on the aftermarket performance clutch system to suit your driving habit. Seems like right now is the good time since you have pretty much worn out the clutch.
Unless you have good tools and good knowledge, you cannot replace the worn out clutch yourself just by going with service manual.
Also in order to get to the clutch, dropping of the transimission is in order. This is definitely not for amateur job.
It is not cheap and it takes good chunk of time to finish the job.
Ususally a day or two depending on the shop.
Tough luck, it will cost you some serious $$.
Next time try go easy with your car when you have stock clutch.
Even durable Honda stuff is bound to break or worn out very quick if you are too aggressive or harsh on them.
But like I said, this time go with the aftermarket performance clutch system to give you grips that you are after.

Your post gave me a headach so I only read about a third.......try checking your tire pressure. When it's cold the air in the tire is more dense and hence less pressure. Bring em back to the Max PSI and see what happens.
A youthful thought from my earlier days that worked in my camaro every winter....

P.S. The Rams suck....go Titans.......(sorry dude just had to say it as I grew up just a few miles down the road in SM.

long read...hmmm...also, stock prelude clutch is still built for slippy feet...word of advice, don't "chirp" when you get your next clutch, chances are you are popping your clutch too hard and the plate is taking the damage (hence, your problem now). Shift normally, don't lose rpms, but don't pop your clutch each shift, it's kinda sloppy.
