Default Clutch Release Fork

I'm replacing my clutch. I have done every step besides messing with the steering shaft and I only dropped the subframe 2" instead of 3". Last step, I go to disengage the release fork from the throwout bearing and it won't budge. I've used my hands, vise grips, pliers, I even tried to smack it with a mallot and it won't move a single centimeter. Help?!

You aligned the release fork so that it's perpendicular to the pivot point, before pulling?

If you release fork isn't coming off with the easiest of efforts then you've got a problem.

That sucker should just pop off

I can't align it, it won't move in any direction. It's touching the back wall of the hole it sits in. I hope that made sense.

Any suggestions are accepted. I'll try anything. I'm trying to get this off and all back together by Tomorrow night.

I'm guessing It's stuck in there in an unaligned position. Any other ideas of what could be going on?

Oh also.. I'm replacing the throw out bearing, so will anything else break if I smack it with a Mallot?

If you are replacing the throw-out bearing, you will need to pull the tranny away from the engine. It will be easier to figure out why this release lever is giving you problems. I'd avoid the mallet or sledgehammer.

Well yeah obviously. In the first post, I said I'm replacing the clutch. I wouldn't be messing with the release fork if I wasn't taking the tranny off. Hopefully Billman will see this.

Sometimes the release lever, itself, is a source of rattling noise. Just leave the release lever on the tranny. Pull tranny out and then remove lever and throwout bearing. At least, that's what I'd do...

Good luck on the fix!
