Default code 0116

I just installed a Mugen low temp thermostat and fan switch. I drove the car for a while for maybe 25 min. Then while idling my CEL came on and it displayed a 0116-ECT Sensor Range/Performance Problem

Who here has put the Mugen switch and thermo and has experienced this?

I've gone 10K miles without any issue with the Mugen t-stat and switch.

Did you bleed all the air out of the cooling system after refilling it?

Yo how's your heat work? I've found it can be difficult to get the air out. The gauge will show 3 bars, but the heat blows cold.

It may of had an air pocket around the thermostat, causing a long warm-up time. I'd clear the DTC and see if it recodes. It's also a possibility the ECT sensor is faulty, or the wiring to it.

Do you have anything recently wired into a common sensor ground?

Yeah, I will clear the DTC and see if it comes back.

Billman,

I have exactly that. I checked the code and it gave me P0116 code. It happened while I was on my smoking break with the car idling. For the past few days the heater didn't blow hot air for long time, it use to get hot quickly even while idling.

Any ideas if it's just air?

I checked the coolant level this evening and found it was low, so I topped it up and the reservoir was empty, so I filled that up. I went for a drive, parked and checked the reservoir again, which was low again, so I filled it up. I'll check it again in the morning. Do I have to bleed the head? I have not done any work on my car for a real long time.

Advice is appreciated.

cheers

W.

Sounds like air in the cooling system, and it may have a leak as well.

Is the car still turbo'd?

Slows2k,

The car is still turbocharged. Its odd because I don't smell any coolant. Being an ex rx-7 owner, I am used to the smell of coolant. I'll bleed the head and see how it goes. It's odd though, there is not a drop of coolant in the engine bay and my exhaust doesn't smell sweet either.

cheers
