Default Cold Engine Rev Limiter?

Another question from a newbie. When running my S2K cold, the rev limiter seems to kick in at around 7000 rpms. Is this an intentional safety measure built in to the car, or is something going on with my engine management system? Second, what is the small black button for on the under side of the dash? Thanks for your help.

You have to wait for "3" bars on the engine temp before you can VTEC. It's a built in saftey measure for the S2000.

Cold? I'm running the spoon stat, switch and cap. Car is usually around 2 bars now that the weather is cold and no problems...more cold= more HP air is more dense..better detonation.

First of all, how much is a bar on this planet and how accurate is the guage on the digital S dash? My car vtecs when that thing is at 2 bars and it does it in to the redline. There is a limmiter but at 2 bars on my dash.... 9000 turns all the way. I guess now that it's cold I can't vtec past 7k anymore? No way, I was @ 9k this night going to home depot to get some icemelter(snowing now in NY) it was in the 30s and my car went up 3 bars only a few times stayed at 2 most of the time.

Shouldn't be VTECin' in that condition... i did a few weeks ago, and as soon as vtec kicked in my car lost traction and spun around... not that it wasn't fun , but i think there's a safety issue there. Just be careful. Hate the winter...
