A fingernail is ~.008" thick, and the edge of one (the part that does the 'catching) is .0002" if a scratch is thin enough to not catch your nail chances are the scratch is even smaller than that. In other words, smaller than any tolerance measurement on the car. When it's that close you have no choice but to send it.

Aluminum and iron are a little up. Could be rings, imo not worth tearing into the engine for some oil burning from slightly worn rings. If it's not fouling spark plugs just run it and keep an eye on the oil.
