Default Compression okay?

So, I'm about to buy an 04 Rio, and I asked the dealer to have the compression checked for me. Here are the numbers:

1- 196
2- 174
3- 203
4- 203

From what I've read isn't the 174 a sign that cyl 2 has some slight damage, or is that acceptable? I'm really wanting this car, but if the engine is not performing fully, or going bad, I don't want to buy a headache.

Should I have them do a leakdown?

Buy the car or no? What do you think?

thats too much variance between the cylinders. now keep in mind that the higher the compression the widre the numbers can vary and it would still be somehting liek a valve lash adjustment needed.

id say that cyl 1 is a valve lash adjustment but cyl 2 is some what alarming. do a wet compression test and see what happens.

the compression number looks fine except it varies too much.

I am surprise they didnt do a wet test on the low number cylinder(or they just didn't tell you)

i will not buy it based on that

deffinately seems low. mine were close to 210 with a 3mm headgasket. i would imagine stock it would be atleast 230-240. There is also way too much variation between all the cylinders. the closer they are together the better it is.i would pass on it for sure.
