compression test, how are these results
I don't know about you all but, taking the plugs out of an alumimum head when it's super hot is a big no-no in my mind. I think you run the risk of ripping the threads out of it along with the plugs.
Lets just say I'd never to that.
As for the OP. Compression tests for comparing cylinder to cylinder variation are fine. As a method of testing wear, they suck and won't give you accurate enough information. I don't care what gauge you use. I'd put the plugs in, drive the shit out of it and keep an eye on oil usage and how quickly the oil gets dirty.
Lets just say I'd never to that.

you dont have to reply to this, or you can if you want...
I just know what I've been doing for years, and never had a problem.
once. on an S2000, on a b16, b18, k20, f22, h22, c32
whatever motor you want, shit LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7.... race motors with aluminum heads...etc
okay so I did this test again with my new compression gauge by actron, from sears. I pulled the fuel pump fuse, engine was already warm...
my test results this time were
1 - 240
2 - 238
3 - 240
4 - 240
I even tried a wet test on cyl # to see what it would pull and it had a 265 wet test reading...
I am more satisfied with these results and I knew that my previous gauge seemed faulty...

Also, for those who have done this test, did you pull your fuel pump fuse or did you have another way or cutting off the injectors?
so being as paranoid as I am I ran it again, this time I pulled the pump fuse while it was running till it died out, then disconnected my injectors, and Im glad to say that I got the same readings throughout the engine
