Default Compression test results.

First off a little background. 2001 68,800 miles. Perfect and strong idle. Drives like a champ. A little worried though about my numbers. How worried should I be?

1-190psi
2-190psi
3-180psi
4-175psi

When we added a little oil to each the numbers jumped to 205-230psi.

Shouldn't my car be acting up if something is seriously wrong?

Any input is appreciated.

Do you go through excessive oil?

The only time I seem to burn up the oil is when I'm heavy on the vtec. Other than that I do not have any out of the ordinary oil consumption.

I want to make sure that you understand we added a little oil to each cylinder. That is what bugs me when the numbers jumped.

So any number below 180 (I'm assuming) is bad?

While your numbers are slightly low, they are well within the norm. They all seem to be pretty similar also. I would not worry much about it.

If its coming from you that they are normal it makes feel a lot better. You know your stuff. I didn't see how it could be anything major because everyone talks about horrible idles and running crappy. This idle stays in one spot and never moves. The only problem I was getting was from a crappy wiring job the previous owner did on my VAFC II.

Last night we took the VAFC out and are seeing how the car runs stock to make sure it was the wiring. I was getting an occasional random missfire. The dealer told me it was the VAFC but that he was going to mess with the wires.

Well now that its out I will see what happens.

Thanks for the replys.

Well, triple check with Tim Herron...but I am pretty sure the psi per cylinder in the S2000 is right at 228 psi. The max variation is 28 psi which is a hair over 12% - - however, if I personally had any variation of over 5% I would not feel too confident everything is ok.

The largest variation between yours seem to be at 8% but all of them seem to be on the low side. If you are gaining compression when you add oil then you could leak somewhere...

Have you run a leak down test?

well....that depends:

Nominal: 228psi
Minimum: 135psi
Maximum Variation: 28psi

If you had all of them around 170-180...I guess by "Honda" standards, you would still be ok...
