Comptech CAI, different filter?
No, it doesn't - as I posted, my own analyses using high powered lab miscroscopes with indexed lenses graticules clearly demonstrated that larger particles got in through the most famous aftermarket filters. Whether some some small outfit like Apexi makes a better one i cannot say, but I would be interested to know how, since all the others have failed.
By the way, we used the SAE J-726 protocol using ISO Test Dust.

Road Rage is a little too anal about the air filter, engine oil, gear oil or anything to do with oil....i think we should just put the S2k on display that way no damage could be done and no wear and tear!!

I know, i'm being too sarcastic. Sorry Road Rage. FYI, i have a '93 Integra GSR, i had a aftermarket CAI by Akimoto with K/N type filter put in at 50,000 miles and now it has over 230,000 miles on it and it still runs strong!! Just change the oil every 3k miles and service the filter every 10k miles and you should have no proplem with premature engine wear. All these test conducted by the lab can not simulate real operation condition....If you drive in a dusty area service your filter more often.
BTW. I'm using Castrol gtx oil since brand new. Don't waste your money on these expansive synthetic oil if your going to change your oil at 3k miles!! If your racing or have force injecting then synthetic oil is a good option.

Reedz, please add your buying, fitment, and observations.
Ordering from AFE was a very straight forward online transaction. I received a receipt for the transaction immediately and an order confirmation from their orders desk later the same day. I've just checked again, and I never received a shipment confirmation. No beg deal for me, there was still snow on the ground when I made my order. The filter and cleaning kit arrived about a week later.
I have included photos below of my Comptech filter for comparison and a shot of the box with filter information, although it is the same as listed above (thanks again).
The filter is a direct replacement for the foam filter and has obviously a great deal more filter area. Just take your band clamp off of the foam filter and place it on the AFE and work it into the box. Putting the new filter in the box is a little more difficult than the foam filter because of the external wire construction, and the AFE is slightly longer and wider on the end, again more filter area.
Unfortunately, I can't speak to the AFE filter's overall effectiveness in terms of car feel (acceleration, throttle feel, etc..) as I've just had a few items fixed or replaced on my car at once (valve adjustment, gear set, oil change). Any one of these changes has been shown to improve the acceleration and feel of an S2000, just imagine all of them at once! From my amateur observation and comparison of the AFE filter and foam original along with the highly considered recommendations from this thread, I'm confident in the filter's effectiveness. Later this spring I am planning to reinstall my foam filter for a more direct back-to-back comparison. Anyone looking for a replacement of the original foam Comptech filter will probably not be disappointed with the construction and design of the AFE.
Regards,
James
BTW, Neither I nor Rick's has any relationship with Advanced Flow Engineering Company. These are my opinions based on casual non-scientific observations. I purchased this filter online just like everyone else can. I like it, and its staying!
