Default comptech SC with vortech aftercooler - any interest?

I still haven't gotten around to calling Vortech yet, but I wanted to see if they would sell the S2000 aftercooler separately.

Also, I have a trip to cali coming up in a couple of weeks (6/18-20) that will have me in Vortech's neighborhood. I was thinking of stopping by to talk to them about the aftercooler and maybe see some hardware.

Would there be enough interest for a group buy?

I'll be ordering a few SC's this week from them, so I can always inquire about it. Thing is... fitment/compatibility with the aftercoolers. Also, you'd want to get the smaller pulley to increase boost because the aftercooler will lose boost. (correct?)

That's why I want to stop by there and see if I can take a peek at the actual hardware. Because it is air-to-water, I am thinking there will be fewer compatibility issues than if it were air-to-air.

Hmm, I didn't realize it was water-air...interesting. I wanted to run air-air in my car, but I can say "yes" there is interest here in knowing if it would fit. What's interesting is that this means they're running a true 8 PSI...<rubbing chin>.

No offense but are you guys kidding?

The aftercooler is Vortecs trump card over Comptech. Comptech is scrambling to respond to the thread. Do you really believe they would sell you just the aftercooler?

Well, I already have a supercharger, so I don't need the vortech kit.

I figure some sale is better than no sale

I hope they do sell the pieces "a la carte", but as a business person I would expect they would not. After all the device gives the 8-9 HP more then their competitor (i.e. 10%).

It's really not that hard. I just call up there and tell them I put a screw driver threw the one that came with my kit...or some similar reason. Ask to buy a replacement. It's not magic. Also, tell me why Comptech sells their FPR, fuel pump, ESM, etc. seperately for anyone who wants to buy? Cash money.

Looks like they're already selling aftercoolers seperately...might be good news.

just got off the phone with vortech - as wesmaster said, they will sell the intercooler separately; it will be available in three weeks or so.

Unfortunately, I was told cost would be $1500-1900 (the guy didn't know exactly). When you think about it, I guess that's not too bad when you consider what you're getting.

hecash...

I hear what you're saying, but I've always thought putting an air to air cooler on the S2000 would be like putting 10lbs of you know what in a 5lb bag. With the air to water, the heat exchanger is smaller, the lines going to the heat exchanger are smaller (as opposed to 3" pipes) and most importantly (to my mind) there is little/no loss of boost.

I can just see wesmaster now, on those hot Houston summer nights, dumping ice into the resevoir in front of starbucks (or maybe behind starbucks, so he doesn't tip his hand )
