i love my spoon intake. i mean the concept is simple. cold air is fed to the stock airbox as the car moves because the inlet is directly behind the front grill. there is a minimal risk of water entering and requires the removal of one piece of plastic and the slight modification of another.

it's not as loud as aems or injens, but you do hear an increase in sound at speed. i'm gonna order a spoon filter pretty soon and that should help out a lot.

Like "Tim the Toolman Taylor" used to say, "MORE POWER!"
I guess, for some folks, the chase for more HP is too tempting and is worth the small risk. And the 4IG AEM "clone" is quite good bang for the buck. It can give near double digit HP gains. And for many, it's the sound that they pay for.

yeah. i had the 4IG intake, never put it on and sold it to a fellow NYC member brand new. i kinda didn't like the concept of removing anything from the car as well as cutting my fender well. last year, the parking lot at my job flooded and half my wheels were submerged. had i put the intake on, i would have experienced hydrolock for sure. at least with the spoon, water will just drain out the duct.

isn't spoon intake should gain HP as speed increase?
i just think it doesn't increase any HP from dyno cause car is not moving... but in real life.. as speed of car increase.. more air it draws...in't it?
am i wrong xviper? please give me ur opinion.. thx

PRM has yet to be mentioned (consider it mentioned )

and from my research (I don't own it) I have found that most give it a solid -- namely, the car is noticably quicker, it sounds good, and hydrolock fears are minimal.

it's the intake I'm most likely to get.

I have the PRM and love it. The sound is awesome and the car does seem to have better throttle response and acceleration at VTEC. But what really won me over was how easy it is to install.

MG Racing carbon fiber intake -
here are some threads you can check into.

this is an awesome intake. they go for $600 new on mptuning.com
i have been looking for a used one for a while now but have yet to find one. this is the only intake i will consider. 6-7 dyno proven HP and 12 HP to the wheels at speed!!!

i have been talking to a carbon fiber manufacturer about making some intakes similar to this for a group buy. we will see if i can put it together. it is atleast a month away.

here are some pictures of the MG Racing intake

on the subject of intakes, it is also important to consider the quality of the air filter used. specifically, any of the intakes mentioned can be made to have HP gains simply by using a filter that allows air to flow more freely through it-- and thus allow more dirt into the engine. this, of course, is not good for your motor.

although difficult to compare, do try to atleast eyeball the filter used in the aftermarket intake compared to the stock one and ask yourself if it will allow more dirt into the motor than what the Honda engineers deemed acceptable. keep in mind that it is in the best interest of the aftermarket intake manufacturers to use filters that allow for the highest HP gains on the dyno with the minimal "acceptable" levels of filtration, since often all that is discussed of aftermarket intakes is the HP gains, hydrolock concerns, ease of installation, sound, and looks.

of course, snorkel-type intakes that feed directly into the stock airbox with stock filter will have no adverse effects on the engine. perhaps more dirt will be allowed into the airbox, and thus clog the filter that much sooner, but who cares right? so long as there are HP gains, and the filter is doing it's job.

if anybody has any solid comparisons of the filters, I believe it's quite pertinent to the subject at hand so please post your opinions and pics too if you can.

CAI's have proven dyno gains...but I dont think I've ever seen Spoon, Mugen Ram air etc with any dynos since they need to get the car moving in a wind tunnel of somesort. I would just stick with a CAI...It's cheaper and its dyno proven.
