Default Coolant Flush...

I am getting ready to do a coolant change on my 2003 AP1. Is removing the block drain a must? I have already bought a new block plug and sealing ring. However if it is not really required I would rather not unthread/rethread a plug into the aluminum block. How incomplete will the flush be without removing the plug?

My second question is about the sealer the FSB says to put on the plug. What kind of sealer? Blue or Green Loctite? Liquid or regular teflon tape? The FSB is not clear.

Thanks I appreciate your interest.

I believe Honda recommends just a drain and fill. That's what ive done on all my Hondas. Jack the car up and loosen the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. Then take the radiator cap off and let it flow out till empty. I would just go get a gallon of Honda 50/50 coolant. I would fill up the radiator and reservoir (only half way), squeeze the upper radiator hose as hard as you can till coolant comes out the radiator. While still squeezing the upper radiator hose put the cap back on with your other hand. Ive always done it like that on all my Hondas and never ever had a problem. Ive never drained the block on a s2k unless it was a complete overhaul or something

don't worry about the block plug.

I stopped removing the block plug because only a teaspoon comes out. Just leave the radiator draining until its dripped dry. Few hours.

IF you pulled the block drain plug, a small amount of hondabond (or permatex grey rtv silicone) on the threads close to the seal washer is best.

I've added some edits to the bleed procedure in Darcyw's link above.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Billman, thanks for the info. I really do not like to disassemble and reassemble aluminum assemblies if I do not have to. One less opportunity for a future leak.
