Default Coolant Temp Sensor Question!

I got a question for all you s2000 gurus.

My buddy has a 2007 (AP2 of course) s2000. He was involved in an accident this weekend during the snow storm (his DD's alternator died). He needs a new radiator, bumper, passenger fender, and headlight.

Since I'm trying to help him out as much as possible, I'm giving him my stock radiator from my AP1. At first we thought it would be drop in, with no problems, but it looks like the coolant temperature sensors are different sizes.

Does anyone have any information on this? Are the coolant sensors different sizes from AP1 to AP2?

The bung is larger on the pre-DBW radiators, both AP1 and AP2. The DBW temp sensor uses a smaller bung. You can get an adapter (Koyo dual core radiators require an adapter for the MY06+ cars); Koyo dealers may have the adapter in stock; otherwise you can use a differential drain plug and drill it out, tap it for the smaller sensor and it works just fine. That's what I have on my Koyo. The threading on the diffy drain plug is the same as on the MY00-MY05 fan switch bung; and the threading on the DBW sensor is the same as on the radiator drain plug for all years. Other people have just extended the wire length going to the sensor and used the radiator drain plug bung in the bottom center of the radiator to house the smaller DBW temp sensor, and then used the larger AP1+ fan switch bung, with a plug, to drain the radiator. If you need the thread sizes I have them somewhere and will look them up for you.

Take a look at this thread for some pics of the adapters and thread sizes:

Ivan, I have one in Houston that I can send you. Koyo sent it to me on request, but I had already made an adapter by drilling and tapping a diff drain plug; so I never got around to installing the Koyo adapter. I'm in CO right now, on my way to HCII, so I could send it to you when I get back to Houston on the 29th. Are you still going to HCII?
