Default Could it be clutch buzz

I have developed a sound that's like the clutch buzz but it is present at a totally different rpm. When I let the clutch out from a stop there is a buzz that starts at the lowest engine rpm and remains until a couple of thousand rpm. Could the springs be vibrating when the load and speed is minimal. Could this be the clutch springs?

Thanks

At that load and rpm, it could also be a heat shield vibrating. A rattling heat shield is a bugger to find.

It is not heatshields, I took them off for the Toda header. No contact or looseness on the exhaust. The buzz just started a couple of hundred miles ago and it is getting louder.

Thanks for reminding me about your Toda. Have a close look at that black battery heat shield. It's really close to the Toda in some places and it might be touching when the engine torque rotates over. That shield could be loose, bent or cracked at the mounting screws.

The TSB 054 clutch buzz would make noise under decel only, and when you push the clutch in the noise would go away.

Even the updated clutch discs still make some noise, especially when accelerating from a stop. I think this noise is more noticable due to the clutch's close proximity to the drivers compartment.

When the bottom bracket cracked on my Toda it buzzed under acceleration right around 4K rpm.

I'd start looking at all of the heat sheilds you have had off 1st. Light use of a rubber mallet on the exhaust is a good technique for finding rattles in the Exhaust system.

My clutch is really loud when you let off the gas and just coast. It started making the noise as soon as I replaced the stock clutch for the Competition Clutch. I am getting ready to replace the clutch now because drivability is bad, it is too grabby!

On the left of the heat shield there is a hose and hose clamp. The hose is attached to the heater control.

The post from the heater control was vibrating against the heat shield adding to the buzz.

I moved it and the buzz is less now so it was adding to the sounds.

I still think the clutch springs are what are buzzing but it will be a while before I pull that baby out again.

Consider yourself lucky. Not all clutches will buzz, especially the model years that came after '02 when Honda supposedly put in a clutch disc with "beefier" springs. However, some owners with '03s and even '04s have made mention that their clutches buzz. The buzzing is dependent upon each transmission's final backlash when it was all put together. This is where the vibrations begin that manifest themselves as noise in the springs.
