Default Couple easy ECU Questions

My car: 2000 S2000 completely stock

OK so I got a 2002 ECU from a member on this board for a great price. I heard they run leaner and have a bit more mid-range performance so I figured, why not. I took the ECU to Honda to get my keys reprogrammed and what not.

Upon installing the ECU, afterwards he said that they had to reflash the ECU to get it to work. He didnt charge me but now I have a few questions.

1. Does this mean he flashed it to a 2000 ECU? This means this whole situation would a waste of time since I got the '02 for the upgrade.
2. If I do reset the ECU in the future, do I lose what they did? I know I could reset my old ECU no problem, but this ECU will hold that reflash no matter what?

You cannot "reflash" the ECU on 00-05 ECU's. He might be referring to programming the key to the ECU as "reflashing" but that's not the proper term to use. As long as the key turns on the car, and the car runs good don't worry about it. All they can do is program it to your ECU to get it to work and that's it. Also no, even if you reset the ECU and stuff, the key will still work fine, the ECU still has all of the 02 settings since it's an 02 ECU.

There can't be, as the ECU cannot be flashed.

I'm sure there are improvements in each year that are unpublished up to 2003, and for the 2.2L for 04-05.

Right , I see.
Although it stayed at 2.0L over here but that makes no differnce to my question.

I agree with steven, any of the 00-05 model ECU's can not be flashed or anything, only 06+. The only way you can do anything with our ECU is if you get a piggyback EMS, and those are almost worthless too since they are hard to tune. The best thing to do for a 00-05 is to get a full standalone EMS such as AEM or Haltech.
