Aaron, do a search for "cracked retainers" and "Billman." AP2 retainers are the way to go, but I believe they have to be modified to work in the F20C. Billman can clearify.
I thought the AP2 retainers into an AP1 head were pretty much install and go, what modifications are you thinking of?

No mods. Just use AP2 keepers with them.

Do the AP2 keepers come with the AP2 retainers, or do they need to be ordered separately? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm slowly compiling info and I might just do the swap on my AP1 for peace of mind.

retainers should be $2-$2.50 each depending where you purchase them. keepers should be $3 for each pair. they are separate parts and do not come together.. so $85-90 total

is the "keeper" the same as what Honda calls a "cotter"?
and am I correct in assuming that we need 32 pcs (halves)?

Wouldn't the F20C2 retainers do the trick?

Keepers/cotters are the same. You'll need two for each retainer, so 32.

Personally, I'll do AP2 retainers on the intake side only if I find them broken.

My mistake. I thought the AP2 retainers needed a little grinding to work on the AP1.
