The 8k redline is the only thing holding me back from getting a new s2k.

The AP2 does however, handle like it's on rails. I got to thrash one on the track and the composure is amazing.

Strange to hear from the father of the first widely known 9k reving Ap2. How is that car holding up anyway?

Well, with the 2006 and newer it will be tough...unless the ECU can be flashed for it somehow.

That car was wrecked, then fixed, it should be on the road in the next few days. 2.2 is still spinning 9k no prob.

You have to pressurize the cylinder with compressed air and then use a spring compressor to remove everything. It's not hard, but make sure you understand every step of the procedure. Dropping things into the oil passages, or worse yet, dropping a valve into the cylinder makes for a long weekend. The Helm manual gives you the entire procedure. it's on sale for $50 right now which is an awesome price.

EDIT: A search for "diy retainer" yielded this.

Don't bother with the helms, it says to pull the cylinder head.

The head should not be removed for retainer replacement.

Billman,

What's your take on 9400-9500 rpm with the stock F20 retainers? Danger zone?

I have a 2001 with 85,000 miles. Should I be worried about the retainers? If so where should I buy new ones, how can I tell if mine are worn, and can I install them on my own?
