It's a "standard" type of thread (lefty loosie). It just takes an immense amount of torque to get it started (up to 500 lb/ft).

Try squirting it with Liquid Wrench and let sit for 1/2 hour and try again. How do you get an impact wrench in there? I found there was not enough space. Ended up using 4 foot long breaker bars.

are you using the right tools? the pulley was the easiest part of the install for us.
two 1/2 inch ratchets, one on the holding tool and one on the pulley bolt, with two 3' pipes and one good yank was all it took.

An impact wrech can fit with a 4" extension and a deep socket I believe. The problem is too much power is lost though the extension and socket to break the bolt loose.

Even on Honda's where you can use a short socket with an impact wrench you're not gauranteed the impact wrench will loosen the bolt.

Crank holder and a 3-4ft pipe on a 1/2" drive braker bar works everytime. (as long as you've got some upper body strength)

I've picked other technicians off the ground breaking crank bolt loose using a pipe on the breaker bar. Leverage at work, it's a beautiful thing.

In any case I think the crank pulley holder is a must.
