Arrow Cross Threaded Seat Rail Bolts

I overtightened the bolts that hold the rails to the floor, looks like the tips are damaged. Will running a chaser tap to straighten the threads in the hole and a chaser dye on the bolts be a good fix (if it works) or should this be a temporary fix only?

thanks guys.

Actually , I did the same thing a couple of months ago. There is some play in the bolt so I'm going to have to get it tapped. Thanks for reminding me.

Sorry, I'm no help, but bump for some answers

Did you cross-thread (thread title) or overtighten (thread text) them. There's a difference and it matters.

honestly i'm no expert but i believe the correct answer is it is cross threaded as a result of my overtightening (sp?) it.

thanks.

If you cross threaded, you only got the bolt a few rotations in before it got too crooked. In which case you probably messed up the top few threads. You could probably get away with just chasing the threads with a tap.

If you overtightened, that means the bolt threaded possibly all the way down and all the threads are stripped. You can't chase this with a tap. You might be able to helicoil it, but I don't know if the material is hardened or not???

then it sounds like it is definetly crossthreaded because an inspection of the bolts reveals they top 2-3 threads are of diffrent widths and closer together.

i will give the chase tapping/die a try tonight and see if it works. thanks
