Default CV swap

Curious as to who has done the swap from R to L and how its holding up? How long are the CV joints suppose to last anyway?

Thanks

There was a post here a couple days ago from an owner with 120K miles. All he's done is the routine maintenance. CV life depends on how the car is driven and whether or not care was taken to inspect and keep the boots in good condition.

The fact that he didn't mention anything regarding any major repair, I could only assume that his CVs are original.
CVs of a FWD usually take a worse beating than those of a RWD (and they generally last anywhere from 80K miles to 200K miles), however, our CVs tend to pit far more easily than any other I've seen or heard of.

120K MILES!
Billman, thanks for reminding me. He didn't mention anything about the CVs but this is useful information.

I know there was a batch of these that cropped up pre-03 that were addressed by a TSB. Is the problem resolved, or is it just a matter of time before the 03s start to do it? Did they change materials or machining to fix it, or is it a case of just having to replace them every 2 years if you drive in a fashion that wears them out? All these questions.

I hope someone will be able to answer this because I can't. I don't think it's a matter of practice that we have to change these things out every couple of years. If this were the case, we'd hear a lot more than we do. After all, there's got to be over 50,000 of these cars world wide and we certainly don't hear about this as a typical problem. The stats on what we still do hear can't be considered a "common" failure, although it does crop up from time to time to this very day.
