Default Cylinder 4 Misfire - ?

So I live in Florida. Yesterday it rained like, well CRAZY. Haven't seen hail in a while and yes, it was falling the size of quarters. So I was driving home as carefully as possible (I have a CAI) and got home fine. Engine smooth, VTEC still hits and idles great.

So later that night I go to play basketball with a group of friends at an indoor court. On the way home around 8:30pm I get a check engine light. Meanwhile the engine is idling great, vtec changeover is smooth everything is fine. I go to Advance Auto Parts to they can scan for me and I get..

Misfire on Cylinder #4.

So I'm thinking DAMN. Can this be caused my moisture or water. I'm thinking my plug is shot, since we don't have a distributor and its direct ignition. Hoping I didn't pull in water and need to do a compression and leakdown test.

So I buy (4) new plugs - Bosch IR Platinum +4 (they were out of NGK, and I kinda needed some quick). Had them clear the code, went home and threw in the new plugs. The light hasn't come on again. So I think its fixed, but now the question..

What caused it? Just a faulty plug, or was that cause by moisture, H20?? Everything is great. Seems to run smoother than before. VTEC hits nice, and idle is very steady.

Comments welcome. Thanks in advance!!

Take the Bosch plugs back. Get the oem NGKs. The misfire is common...you are on the right path with the plugs. Replace with OEMs (they are available from NAPA too), clear the CEL. If the misfire comes back, then you will need to replace either the injectors or the coil packs. You can test to see if it is the coil pack by putting the #4 (the one that threw the CEL) onto another cyl and see if you get the misfire on the cyl that you put the coil pack on. If the misfire returns on #4, it is time to change the injectors. If it comes back on #3, then coil packs. If it comes up on both...well...hehehe.

BTW...we are having a pretty big meet in Orlando on Sunday. Probably about 100 cars. Come on out if you can to meet the crew. Folks coming from all over. Check the Florida forum for the KamiSpeed meet.

First things first, take those bosch out. I've seen first hand what those can do to your motor. I went through a random misfire issue and it ended up being bad injectors.

Tell them that you knew they were Bosch plugs when you bought them; that you have decided you don't like Bosch plugs and that they should take back the Bosch plugs you knew you were buying in the first place.
