Damaged Steering Rack?

There was a car that was damaged and repaired. the body shop did not center the steeering rack, so lock to Lock was off. It iwas easy to U turn to the right, but not the left. So that is one problem. The second issue could be caused by the motor being damaged in the colision and now has an intermitant short.

if the problem is intermittent as you stated it is most likely an electrical problem.

pull out wiring schematics and trace thru wirings from power steering piece by piece using a multi meter.

If swapping the rack fixed the intermitant issues. The electrical issue would have been inside the rack. So since the rack is not servicable, you reaplce the whole unit.

There is nothing to multi meter.
