DAMN! Another diff. issue...
thats the info I was exactly looking for! so if the fluid was coming directly from the diff. it would be kind of thick and gooey and not like motor oil? hopefully its something easy to repair and not too expensive...

If it's coming from the top of the diff, you must then find out if it's coming from higher than the diff. This would indicate it's the mounts. I've never heard of diff fluid coming out the vent. Diff fluid generally leaks out at the drain plug and sometimes from the fill plug. In any case, it leaks from the bottom half of the diff casing, not from the top. This also applies if it's leaking from the front or side seals. It won't come from the top.
I recently noticed gooey "stuff" all over my diff. that looked like it was comming fron the top or leaking from the seal on the front of the diff. I had no ide the diff mounts were filled with fluid. What is the symptom/result of the mounts failing?
concerning my issue, it wasn't the diff. mounts but something that had to do with my driveshaft and its connection to the diff. my mech. said that my gears itself were fine, but some of the seals needed to be replaced.

If the mounts are failing, you could get noticeable driveline vibration but this can be cause by many things, not just bad mounts. You have to inspect the mounts and the "gooey stuff".

Almost any leakage under there is going to be "gooey stuff". What color is it?

Wasn't there some sort of cylindrical rubber thing (diff mount) filled with fluid that would crack and leak? Not part of the diff, but it would leak around the diff and also get on the exhaust too.

The fluid from these is reddish.
Redline diff fluid is either bright red, like above, or straw-colored depending on which one you use.

There is only the diff vent at the top where fluid can possibly come out and this is HIGHLY unlikely as it would take an IMMENSE overfill to cause this to happen. A diff mount leak generally looks like a stream of reddish goo. It's quite thick and is not a fast leak. Over time, it gets covered with dirt and crap and looks like reddish/brown crap. It takes a while for it to actually form a drop that will find itself to the floor. By this time, the mount is pretty much gonzo.
