Default Defroster Help!

i have an 01 S2000 with a low Vin number under 2000. i have people telling me screw the defroster you live in AZ but i want it to be 100% stock so i want it to work. Heres my problem and i have done a search but cant find the right answer i need so i need your help.

I purchased a brand new hardtop from Honda 2 weeks ago. It arrived on Wednesday and i installed it on Thursday. Everything came as a complete kit from HONDa they only have 1 part number now i guess. I installed it adjusted everything and everything turned out good. I ran the subharness behind the seat and hooked everything up. Installed the switch behind the cup holder with supplied parts. Plugged it in to the harness in the center console added the relay to fuse box and re-assembled everything back to stock. Turned car on and turned lights on and the light lights up the switch no problems. But you push the button and the light doesnt come on showing that the switch has power and defroster doesnt turn on. My questions is? Do i have the right stuff installed or do i still need the retro fit A kit from HONDA also? What is not casueing it to turn on? Im at a loss, ive looked at tons of diagrams and everything says before this VIN and after this VIN and blah blah blah. I hooked everything up per instructions from HONDA but beings my car is an early VIN number 01 is there something i need. I just dont want to buy a $150 kit if all i need is a harness, so please help me out as im in need of help?
