If your car started you got lucky and didn't blow the main 100A fuse to the battery.

Just for future reference - the correct way to jump start a car is not to hook one end up and then the other...

The correct steps:

1) connect positive on one car
2) connect positive on the other car
3) connect negative on good battery
4) connect negative to car ground (unpainted metal) on car with dead battery (to avoid sparks when connected - but I usually just connect it to the battery terminal since a good ground point can be hard to find)

I *never* will let a person connect either end for me. I will connect it, thank you very much. I don't need a battery exploding in my face...
