thats because the attraction from one battery to the other was so strong. electricity will take the shortest/least resistance path it can. all of the power from both batteries was running only from his battery to yours, and vise-versa. thats why everything was so hot.

oh and your very lucky that nothing bad happened. but if nothing has happened yet, there is probably nothing wrong.
