Default Demise of Spoon Camshafts reported

Just received the following from Inline Four:

"Dear Acura/Honda Enthusiast,

Thank you for your inquiry, it is greatly appreciated.

We do not offer the Spoon camshafts anymore because they have been discontinued. Spoon made about 100 sets and decided not to manufacture them anymore. The power gains were o.k., but not worth the $$$ and Spoon acknowledged that with proper tuning and good headwork, you can have decent gains with the stock camshafts. We are currently testing the Toda S2000 camshafts and may offer them in the near future. Please keep your eyes peeled for our website updates."

Looks like Toda or a custom grind are the only options if you want a different cam lobe profile. The 2d generation Toda specs look pretty wild, but I'm saving my pennies for a set. Now if I could just find a tuner in MD. I'd hate to drive all the way across the country just to have one of you California guys tune my engine. I mean we have eight inches of snow on the ground, two inches of salt on the roads, and my hangar queen has been grounded for two months. Who'd want to drive with the top down in nice weather? Anybody who's spent this winter on the east coast!

I really need your input about your mugen ecu. I know that is not the topic here but i noticed you have it and i am considering it. My main concern is does the car still run normally with it? is the idle ok, does it backfire, eat gas, etc.? also i heard that it causes knocking unless you run real high octane gas due to the timing advance. any serious input is greatly appreciated.

oshp515, I've had Mugen ECU for a while before I sold it since I went with supercharger. My car was daily driven 100miles everyday.
The car runs perfectly normal and idles normal and behaves normal just like stock. You will not experience any hiccups whatsoever. I am not sure about the backfire but you will actually have better gas mileage with Mugen ECU due to running bit leaner at some stage. I was very happy with it more than any other NA mods that I have done other than final gears.
The only draw back obviously is that it disables the immobilizer and you need additional anti-theft device if you want to protect your car.
You will be very happy with the way it pulls from stand still and that is where you are going to notice huge difference between stock and Mugen ecu. You won't experience bog when you step on the gas like you would with stock ecu.

Inline4 has absolutely no clue what they are talking about. The Spoon camshafts were never made available to the public. That's the real story. We've gotten confirmation of that from several sponsors who deal directly with Spoon.

According to Scot at King Motorsports, you need to run the Mugen ECU with the following. Mugen Thermoswitch, Thermstat, Radiator Cap (this I haven't figured out), and minimum 92 Octane gas. If you live in Ohio, I think 93 and even 94 should be readily available to you. Guys in California are stuck with 91 Octane, unless they get race gas.

Exactly, Spoon never ever release their cams to the public. Spoon cams are still under testing procedure. According the information from Spoon, higher lift cams with stiff valve springs will occur major rocker arm and camshaft wear. For now , Spoon just released their valvesprings and hopefully they will release their cams at the middle of the year.
While I have no interest, vested or other in Inline Four, the email I posted didn't state they had sold Spoon Camshafts, simply that Spoon had discontinued their manufacture. The bottom line of the InlineFour note is accurate: the camshafts are not available to the public. No axe to grind, just don't want to leave an inaccurate impression of their response to my question.
