Diff failure question
I been considering doing a Final drive upgrade. My car is a daily driver with occasional aggressive driving but never any launching. No track/autocross, no drag strips but occasional harmless races with friends. My question is that do i need a reinforced diff housing from CT? Im not planning on boosting either. I heard the s2000 diff is a weak link. Is it the diff or the diff housing? if the diff is a weak link then the reinforced diff housing wont make a difference? Pretty much i dont want to invest in a final drive upgrade and blow my diff. what can i do to prevent that? I was thinking 4.77+CT reinforced housing (if the housing is the weak link), but if the diff is the actually weak point, how would i go about preventing my differential from failing?
Thank you
Thank you
If the housing is the weak point, can i solve the problem by buying the CT enforced diff housing for my final drive project?
If so, i am planning to buy the final drive, install kit from HTG, enforced housing from CT, and other seals and ect for the shop to install. is that all i need to put everything into the CT housing?

The weak point is the bearing caps and bolts that hold them along with the crush collar distance piece. The bearing caps give under shock loads causing misalignment of the pinion which then grenades your diff...as best as I can determine. The crush collar allows for further deformation allowing the torque on the backlash nut to go awry further aggravating the problem. All these issues are fixed with the Puddy modded diff.

The crush collar IS NOT a weak point at all.
In any way or form.
If you think it is you don't know how it works
IMO, some oils are.

As long as you don't do 6k+ rpm clutch dumps from a dead stop your diff should be fine.
A properly set up diff should hold up to the abuse you describe as your driving style.
Also, please keep your "harmless" races away from inhabited roads/streets. Harmless races usually end up the worst. Save some $$ and take it to the track where you can learn the potential of you and your car in a safe environment.

I launched my car all damn day on Sunday at like 8k RPM with a Hyper single clutch and 265/40R17 Z1 star specs at an autocross. I was slipping the clutch...but still.
Diff seems fine. This isn't the first autocross/donut/45second long burnout/drag strip/HPDE/gear slam the car's ever had either. The car has 37k miles on it now.
I know it'll break eventually. Hopefully not at a HPDE. Besides that, I really don't care if it does or doesn't break.
