It sounds like you should lower the car back to all fours or lift the front to be level to see if it's about right. You may still need a bit more.

I use a weed pressure sprayer and just pump that up. Cut the end tip off and you can easily fill the differential. It's like $7 at Walmart too

The trick I learned is to use the jack to lift up the diff to an incline so that you can get a couple of extra pumps in. Then cap it off when it overflows and let the diff back down.
