Diff and Tranny oil
My mechanic put this Mobile 1 synthetic in both my diff and transmission after having 4.57 gears installed. Is this going to be okay or am I going to break one or the other soon?
Get that stuff OUT of your tranny ASAP!!!!! It is a GL-5 gear oil and is not compatible with the syncros in your tranny. In fact, if your tranny craps out, your mechanic may owe you a new tranny.
ps. Once you finish the law suit to get him to replace your tranny, I suggest you find yourself a new mechanic. He should know better.
pps. If he made this horrendous mistake, I would seriously question how well he put those gears in. You may find yourself with intolerable gear whine from a botched gear install.

Many use GM Syncromesh Friction Modified - lots has been posted here on that fluid for the tranny. I use it.
I also recommend and use LE 607 for the diff - it is a true 90w GL-5, per Honda spec. Mobil 1 75w90 may be OK, but it is not the same thing as a 90w.
I agree that the mechanic was playing very fast and loose with your car, and I too would be very reluctant to let him (her?) do any more work on my S2000.

Just a friendly tip - get to know your Owner's Manual - basic info like proper lubricants, wheel bolt torque, etc are things every owner should be able to cite from memory.

Is it at all possible to find these products? I've called Napa, Schucks, and Auto Zone and nobody seams to have them. I've asked for GM Synchromesh FM Pennzoil Synchromesh and LE607.

(primarily at those that service Cadillacs). The LE can be purchased in the forum store (GoFastLabs). I think the GM may even be available in the forum store. Also, Hardtopguy carries these. You can go to his website to find them.
I tried my GM dealer yesterday. I figured since they did all the Corvette Z06 stuff that they would have the best fluid around. He told me he hadn't even heard of GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. He tried to sell me a quart of regular synchromesh but I figured it was the wrong stuff. I'll try my Cadillac dealer now instead of my Chevy dealer. But regardless, you say hardtop guy has it via the net?
Tell me xviper or anyone else. Is my car in real danger rolling around for another week or two with this mobile 1 in it or will I be ok until I can get a hold of this synchromesh? Regardless, it's getting changed.
Thanks again for the help!
