is this true??? i got my diff oil changed at my Honda dealership at about 2,000 miles ago. what should i do?

It simply means Honda doesn't make a true differential fluid. Mobil 75W90 is a good fill for the rear diff.

Honda probably put in something more multi-purpose.

 

I've heard several people have really happy expereinces w/the Mobil 1 diff fluid

This person posted later stating that the dealer owned up and replaced the diff.

 

when the s2k was first out, dealers would always make the mistake of putting in the wrong fluid. but now(atleast at my dealership) since the s2k has been out for a while, they are using correct fluids. for instance, at my job, they use castrol hypoy c 80w90 gl5+ limited slip gear oil . jsut to be safe, call the parts department of that dealership and ask them what they sell for the s2k differential.

Based on the lab analysis I'm sure the Honda dealer put in the VTM stuff during my first differential change. Especially considering that the lab analysis from my third differential change Mobil 1 75W/90 showed little to no excessive wear.

Thank goodness I got the 7 year-75000 mile warranty and have some proof of differential wear following the dealer fluid change. I'm probably screwed, but at least if I have differential problems I can try and get it replaced.

 

i just got off the phone with my honda dealership and they said that they use 80-W90 for the S2000 differential. anyone know if this is okay to use? should i change it out as soon as possible?

 

You also need to know if it is GL-5 Hypoid Gear Oil. If not, dump it.

 

ill call again and see if this is what they use
